Left are Todd and Bethani as we wait in front of Stacey's house, where we cooked a meal of Carrot soup. In Maroua, we also enjoyed the fruit juices that were readily available.
Maroua was our base for the two weeks we spent in the Northern Province 12-8 to 12-23. Above you can see the river bed that is mostly dry this time of year. It seems this river is used for many things. You can see above animals being watered, people bathing, doing their wash, swimming. Also a big trash pile is on one side, and below you can see smoke from fires.
The trip to Maroua was to take this group of people from Batouri to learn to dye fabric so they could take this new trade to their village and teach others how to do it. You can see the group holding their certificates and a sample of the fabric they learned to dye.
This is the Lamado's palace. During Ramadan, people come here and play music.
Above is a street vendor near the home of Sharon, where we stayed while in Maroua. She and her friend Bakari were very kind to make us comfortable. This is the only place we went that had an air conditioner. She also had this sand pit just inside her entrance that was a nice place to lie down and relax. I tried to sleep there one night, but something scared me inside. I think it must have been a big rat from the latrine, but I didn't want to stay and find out.
